Life Coaching

The Issue

People often find themselves stuck in some way such that they survive rather than thrive in their interpersonal, occupational, academic, and/or business endeavors. In many cases their frustrations have their origins in programming that has taken place in one’s formative years.

For those individuals who feel stuck, people in positions of authority (e.g., parents) have provided flawed beliefs that leave them with distortions regarding what to believe, how the world works and our place in it. Misfortune, tragedies, and setbacks of one kind or another can further result in a world view that is seriously distorted in ways that are costly.

In some cultures, we are encouraged to think of being stuck as pointing to a need for psychotherapy; yet, oftentimes, we can safely reject the notion of being a patient in need of mental healthcare.

For certain clients, life coaching offers an alternative way of conceptualizing difficulties and a far more cost-effective collaboration that moves them from survive to thrive in relationships, work, school, or business. There is no need for psychopathologizing or overly-long bouncing the rubble from a less than facilitative set of experiences during our formative years.

So, what is the alternative?

The Coaching Endeavor

Each of us inherits a lens through which we view ourselves and the larger world. All lenses introduce distortion to some degree, because those from whom the lens come were compromised in some way, and the lens is imperfect. As psychologist Paul Watzlawick once said, “The spectacle we see, depends on the spectacles we wear.”

Life coaching is a collaborative venture between a coach (oftentimes with a background in psychotherapy training) and a client, who is usually self-referred. Through a variety of education, storytelling, multi-level communication, metaphor, and laughter, the coach and client polish the lens such that it has greater clarity and better promotes the client’s best interests.

The Mission

To enrich lives and improve society one client at a time.
