“Decide what you want” is often the first suggestion we make to prospective academic coaching clients. This might seem like a simple suggestion, but if you insert the word “truly” (i.e., what you truly want), perhaps it becomes clearer.
The back-to-school sales for computers, clothes, and supplies seem to emphasize parties, play, and romance in an academic world largely insulated from the stress and care of the larger world beyond the college experience. As former Secretary of Education, Bill Bennett, said, “College, for many, is subsidized dating.” If that is what you truly want, and if those who pay the bills understand this, and all interested parties find this agreeable, then so be it!
But if you want the kind of post-college life that a rich college experience can bring you, and if you think you need an academic coach to help you focus your energies and tweak your efficiencies, then give us a call. Don’t worry, there will be time for play and romance, but, at the end of the proverbial day, you will have a college education in the truest sense of the expression, good grades, and letters of recommendation that put you at the threshold of the life you wanted on the first day of Freshman Orientation.
